City History
“First residents here were the Tonga native Americans, back the it was called Mission Indians, but after the Spanish colonized in the 18th century, it changed to Mission San Gabriel. Then in the 1800s the community was then called Mud Springs, by Spanish frontier solder and his party when they were in in route from Mexico to Monterey. It was named so because it was next to mud springs. It was finally placed on the map in 1887 when a railroad was built and began to run , and was called the Santa Fe Railroad. This created a land boom, creating roads, stores, and other businesses. Then the city was again renamed form Mud springs to San Dimas. It soon became and agricultural community starting out with wheat, then to oranges and lemon groves. The “Sunkist” name started from here. Sand Dimas is suburb city in Los Angeles along the San Gabriel Mountains. It is North east of down town Los Angeles and north of Pacific Ocean. San Dimas is also along the historic route 66.”
